On the occasion of World Water Day, on 22 March 2015, eCORP stimulation Technologies, LLC (ecorpStim) recalls that the technologies of propane stimulation and non-flammable propane stimulation contribute to the preservation of water resources by allowing extraction of unconventional hydrocarbons without a drop of water and zero chemical additives.
The United Nations’ World Water Day was observed on 22 March 2015. The main conclusion highlighted in the 2015 edition of the event, dedicated to “Water and Sustainable Development”, is that the planet is facing a 40% shortfall in water supply by 2030.
According to the World Water Development Report 2015, water demand for manufacturing is expected to increase by 400 per cent between 2000 and 2050 globally. The UN recalls the conflict of uses that can sometimes be associated with industrial techniques such as hydraulic fracturing:
“Projects in hydropower, irrigation, energy or urban development that are carried out simultaneously and in isolation from each other can lead to water scarcity, unsustainable use of resources, and conflicts between users and local communities. For example, energy options such as biofuels and hydraulic fracturing, and agricultural options such as crop choice or irrigation, impact directly on water scarcity and/or water pollution. This is one reason that an integrated approach to managing water resources has been adopted by the United Nations and governments in many countries. That approach will need to be extended”.
ecorpStim applauds the awareness of issues generated by this new report, and recalls that alternative techniques to hydraulic fracturing developed by ecorpStim, using no water and zero chemical additives, enable to produce shale hydrocarbons without detrimental impact or diminishment of fresh water supplies.
The possibility to use a reusable gas instead of water as a stimulation fluid now solves the issue of the withdrawal of the natural resource, but also of the disposal and recycling of wastewater. In addition, technologies of Propane Stimulation and Non-Flammable Propane (NFP) Stimulation developed by ecorpStim will be particularly useful to explore areas subject to severe water stress.
